Vietnam Veterans

After reading and discussing "Stop the Sun" by Gary Paulson, students heard
from Vietnam Veterans. We are honored to have Mr. Soares return to Oliver to share his experiences with this year's eight graders and we graciously welcome Mr. T. They are awesome storytellers, who give vivid and heartfelt accounts of their experiences in the Vietnam War. The lessons of the Vietnam War are important and relevant; especially as we are currently engaged in wars today. Students will consider and discuss what it would be like to walk in the shoes of a Vietnam Veteran or a soldier in a war? Students will also discuss and/or share their most memorable experience from today's presentation.

Walking In Another Person's Shoes

There is an old saying: "You can't really understand another person's experience until you've walked a mile in their shoes." This saying is so true! Today's students must learn to empathize with others, build an understanding of others around them, and learn to tolerate differences. Students were challenged to write about a person in their life that they would choose to "walk in their shoes." This lesson meshes real life with literary devices, which create a vivid connection for our MIDDLE SCHOOL AUTHORS. Students will share a brief snippet of their writings on this blog!!!
